Data cleansing

It is one thing we usually forget or just too lazy to do. Keep our data clean! I see it all times and I have to admit I am also guilty to not keep all my data up to date.

Nevertheless in projects where data migration, loading or integration is involved data cleansing become more and more important.

What is it?
"...Data cleansing or data scrubbing is the act of detecting and correcting (or removing) corrupt or inaccurate records from a record set, table, or database. Used mainly in databases, the term refers to identifying incomplete, incorrect, inaccurate, irrelevant etc. parts of the data and then replacing, modifying or deleting this dirty data..." source: wikipedia.com

Especially when migration data from legacy systems its the right time to start cleaning in my opinion. In my experience its already too late when a new crm system go live and data cleansing would be almost automatically a lower priority.

In my next post a example how you could do cleansing with the use of our favorite crm tool: Excel and MS SQL.

Keep cleaning while u can ;)
