Strange that many of my customers are still cloudless for at least CRM, but also some are moving toward the D365 cloud<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhodAb0jHoCLZWR3CwrNJc1pEzxLAcWIgYh-9S-oQxIE_Ro6S-Jp6AuPZP-89-yB-xqIdEG0nSS1o5-6GfeHA2gPMqZp0YakC9vu4JPTdbG0IZNYySYYp28ob23XQsNswH8kqMKUv6AyAjH/s1600/cloud-haters-you-too-will-be-assimilated.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="578" data-original-width="770" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhodAb0jHoCLZWR3CwrNJc1pEzxLAcWIgYh-9S-oQxIE_Ro6S-Jp6AuPZP-89-yB-xqIdEG0nSS1o5-6GfeHA2gPMqZp0YakC9vu4JPTdbG0IZNYySYYp28ob23XQsNswH8kqMKUv6AyAjH/s320/cloud-haters-you-too-will-be-assimilated.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<div>
I am still struggling what to call yourself crm consutlant, dynamics 365 (CRM), digital engagement consultant, D365 (no finance). Nevertheless it is still CRM we still have our accounts, contacts, SFA entities only we got some new modules FS, PSA and marketing.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From integration/migration perspectief not much has changed I seen some new products but still enjoy working with Scribe, some MS SQL, the infamous excel. The legacy systems are still often messed up with unreliable not documented data, so basically nothing has changed.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At the D365 Saturday - Amsterdam I attended a session about O365 which seems to grow weekly with new programs like StaffHub, Planner and some more. Nevertheless that Groups and Team can be useful for D365 too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, new layout and now some more posts.</div>

Happy discovering...</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhYXSOjyn2Dt-fdFuvLKCD3cAevYJIrpNE1h79KmaOm6e11lITdiA5vtozruMok5JF3OtqPfVf0eZrbdst9pl0I40mAAvIio6JO4fYCwSlKCEjdqjoHqLlEnpxU3i41sLkufh-ljo5-2o/s1600/Fire_Catapult.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhYXSOjyn2Dt-fdFuvLKCD3cAevYJIrpNE1h79KmaOm6e11lITdiA5vtozruMok5JF3OtqPfVf0eZrbdst9pl0I40mAAvIio6JO4fYCwSlKCEjdqjoHqLlEnpxU3i41sLkufh-ljo5-2o/s320/Fire_Catapult.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Lucky for people working involved in data migrations not much has changed. It is still underestimated, often not part of project plan and still a lot of challenges.<br />
<br />
We still have standard CRM Import tool and now also the new <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/b/crm/archive/2015/10/08/preview-feature-data-loader-for-microsoft-dynamics-crm-online.aspx" target="_blank">Data Loader Service</a>, which I did not had the time to test it (of course for Online).<br />
<br />
The other tools mostly in short list are Scribe either Online or Insight and SSIS in combination with kingswaysoft to connect to CRM.<br />
<br />
<i>'DLS, possible alternative for CRM Online' </i><br />
<i> </i><br />
Still the biggest challenge is how to handle a lot of data, so don't think in thousands, but more in millions of records. This is still difficult, it might be that the earlier mentioned DLS could help you out for CRM Onlime, but I am not sure yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR25eCZ4heSwJ3_yamlvnlEKWUiAlemamRvZ5ijRkvkBasJ5gelljQCcdpp2vLAWJjQOnDNg0ibOFUp1rDKsvIA3nFXc2xo9JHih3DEp29R6_sexDLgWQVFUor6a9MlDBNaKbABBxo8lmw/s1600/data_set.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR25eCZ4heSwJ3_yamlvnlEKWUiAlemamRvZ5ijRkvkBasJ5gelljQCcdpp2vLAWJjQOnDNg0ibOFUp1rDKsvIA3nFXc2xo9JHih3DEp29R6_sexDLgWQVFUor6a9MlDBNaKbABBxo8lmw/s320/data_set.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<i>'Unsupported MS SQL Approach' </i><br />
<i> </i><br />
The still fasted method at least for on premise or partner hosted would be migration with MS SQL. There is a catch, this is 'unsupported' which means if you break it you have to fixed it yourself. Nevertheless for consultants which very good understanding of database and impact on GUI of CRM it is solid alternative. It will involve more testing to see CRM is still working, but you could increase the time for go live migration with days or weeks.<br />
<br />
'Unsupported'<br />
<br />
Of course 'unsupported' means that in case you use this kind of migration approach and you need to get Microsoft Support involved it would be a challenge. So be aware that you check your data integrity while using the MS SQL. In my personal experience its lot faster and could save a lot of time also very handy for migrating annotations.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<i>To be supported or not to be supported, that's your choice! </i><br />
<br />

It's already 2016, time flies when you been too busy for blogging :-)<br />
<br />
Nevertheless, it is still amazing that integration between to systems is still based on old school text files like (in)famous CSV file.<br />
<br />
Of course it still works and once configured right you have solid integration, but I would still prefer xml file exchange or even better use one of the available adapter for your fav integration tool.<br />
<br />
In case you have some need for this ol' skool integration you can do this of course with Scribe Software it's possible with either online or onpremise.<br />
<br />
Although the <i>Cloud </i>is hot and we have still have freedom of choice ... yes, you can choose between cloud and <strike>on-premise</strike>.. cloud, but if you want it all you have to go cloud and you know cloud is the best. Hmmm, still many customer for MS CRM still have on premise or partner hosted environment....<br />
<br />
So, in this short example we still go for on-premise e.g. Scribe Insight / CRM on premise :)<br />
<br />
A common scenario that you will need to monitor fileshare and when new CSV file arrive, we have to process it toward Dynamics CRM and either delete or archive the processed file.<br />
<br />
First step would be to create ol' skool ODBC 32bit and<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2iPjcUD6NTROJkBIMFlQbCALstn6z-sGRUFRRCyFH3vzSrS9B2_8yAAfsGYxY1E4UOb1rnKh56uHCMtRBRo-7GZO9buC-DRe31RPTsdPY-p744R9WxB9AaqQtuGW1FxE84FkDQfOzXnSl/s1600/obdc32-scribe.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2iPjcUD6NTROJkBIMFlQbCALstn6z-sGRUFRRCyFH3vzSrS9B2_8yAAfsGYxY1E4UOb1rnKh56uHCMtRBRo-7GZO9buC-DRe31RPTsdPY-p744R9WxB9AaqQtuGW1FxE84FkDQfOzXnSl/s400/obdc32-scribe.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Create ODBC 32bit!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next step is to define data source name, database directory (windows location) etc, the next step would be to hit "advanced" tab and click define to specify every row. This is important for assigning the data type. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjS4lEdiJCLQ0uUiUuSpEnT-uV8ZN5SQKwlefLrnFQRrr2JexLZPF_-CqjDtFvz4xrAnIG8_JkEegj2fbH9q_GpRP-fjCaoD4ASOd-YJweID1bAOEtcXY98l9PeAZObFnBVRGCcD37ddQ/s1600/define_advanced.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjS4lEdiJCLQ0uUiUuSpEnT-uV8ZN5SQKwlefLrnFQRrr2JexLZPF_-CqjDtFvz4xrAnIG8_JkEegj2fbH9q_GpRP-fjCaoD4ASOd-YJweID1bAOEtcXY98l9PeAZObFnBVRGCcD37ddQ/s400/define_advanced.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">ODBC - Define Table</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
This will be your data source, of course next step is too create your scribe dts file, but I am sure you would be able to select source (odbc), target (CRM) and create your own mapping.<br />
<br />
More interesting are the settings for the integration process and I always forget this, so I have to open and dust off the archive...<br />
<br />
To be in style also some screenshots from older Insight version ;-)<br />

In the first step of configuring you<br />
the basics like processe name, collaboration, DTS file and also DTS Parameters where most important is '/SD=%FileName'.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In the second step you can define your pre- and post operation.For the first step you could move incoming file to dedicated directory or might even code to retrieve file from ftp location.<br />
<br />
In post command you usually place code to archive you file.Depending on which functionality you use either custom bat file or standard scribe archive solution you can add parameter like '%FileName'<br />

<span style="color: #3d85c6;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">In the third step you location where you file will be placed e.g. location where you put your file for processing. You can use wild card like '*.csv' or in screenshot '*.xml'</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #fff2cc;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="color: #fff2cc;">Further you can define poll time, run it once of everytime new file arrives and locking file, delete after processing. This would depends on your design.</span><span style="background-color: #b4a7d6;"></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Last two steps</span></b><br />
The last two step are basic, so that shouldn't be a problem.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Bat File </span></b><br />
One of the other challenge is to get the right file name in your bat file. The trick is to config the parameter in step one. In your bat file you can refer to it with '%1'. A codesnippit including creation of log file should be something like this:<br />
<br />
"move /-y "%1" "D:\Example\dir1" >> "D:\Example\dir1\Cmdlog.txt" 2>&1"<br />
<br />
Furthermore your scribe service account should have the correct privileges to read & write.<br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Ol' School integrating!<br />

We just got used to CRM 2013's updates and latest update to CRM2015 and the next one is already waiting the Spring 2015 release. I will spare you all names like Carina, Spica, Hydra etc<br />
<br />
As consultant we are already have our handsfull in tracking all release as our customers still will be on CRM4, CRM2011 or just been to CRM2013.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi85uKBioEdcfGox36q569CqUTPM4lr3T2rmF69hiVWW3k4PsqcziM86PmftobpcVIjF16SezIQCo7GUz9GskzkrI3IpRkS7JJaInxjClI8V0L4i6yAEfAU-Jj1cQtjElmy5Dac05eF_P-/s1600/high-speed-train_073609.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi85uKBioEdcfGox36q569CqUTPM4lr3T2rmF69hiVWW3k4PsqcziM86PmftobpcVIjF16SezIQCo7GUz9GskzkrI3IpRkS7JJaInxjClI8V0L4i6yAEfAU-Jj1cQtjElmy5Dac05eF_P-/s1600/high-speed-train_073609.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
In the CRM Online world you have '3' months delay, but you have no option to stop the train which keeps going and going.<br />
<br />
I have to agree that new features and update certainly have benefits and looking forward to upgrades in navigation and additional features.<br />
<br />
Nevertheless my end customers are not that 'nerdy' or 'crm knowledgeable' as myself or other crm consultants. The end users learning curve is slower and it takes time to get used to new way of working or change in their daily routine.<br />
<br />
So, you will be confronted by a dilemma: do we stick to CRM on-premise, so we at least have control on the release train or do we choose for the 'cloud wonder' and jump on the release train.<br />
<br />
Microsoft is basically pushing everyone to the cloud and updates of new features are earlier released to CRM Online then to on premise. And at least I would like to have some Carina features now and not and of the year for on premise.<br />
<br />
We left with the choice jumping on or just follow the train...<br />
<br />
Happy choosing!<br />

<br />
The business is booming again and many companies choosing for the latest version of CRM 2013, but with Fall and Spring 2015 release it is again preparing for the next service / functionality that can be implemented.<br />
<br />
After a view implementation/ upgrades to CRM 2013 I finally get used to this version and still difficult to be confronted with previous versions....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMKqa3EyifXJOz25OD_BnL93eXCED2eL9uyLU_L_yXoaE9D1jJp7Q3cl7dzHUpTtvU19qjNZK7cgWsseEQTliuX8H5hACZr7iOkHIAsInh0gRhqo9SREBQxtze0wD6B18UxlXWG1gLCjqs/s1600/2013-02-19-back-to-work.png.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMKqa3EyifXJOz25OD_BnL93eXCED2eL9uyLU_L_yXoaE9D1jJp7Q3cl7dzHUpTtvU19qjNZK7cgWsseEQTliuX8H5hACZr7iOkHIAsInh0gRhqo9SREBQxtze0wD6B18UxlXWG1gLCjqs/s1600/2013-02-19-back-to-work.png.jpeg" height="198" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Nevertheless, some annoyances from my opinion...as old school laptop user, my mouse wheel keeps spinning through navigation bar... and you keep scrolling to find your entity...oh go back oh too far go back.. go forth.... aarrgghhh<br />
<br />
Also cross-browser functionality is trip to memory lane.... some customization work can be done in all,some only in IE..... can't we go back to just one? :)<br />
<br />
<br />
Further working on next post for msdynamicsworld.com and of course lot of data migration/integration with Scribe. Of course, stick to Scribe and leave Dynamics connector :) The last works fine if you succeed in one time, but trying to restore it especially online can be very challenging.<br />
<br />
<br />
Are there more posts coming.. yes, they will and working on post how to setup your basic integration with Scribe.<br />
<br />
See you at next post, hopefully bit sooner then last one :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626694840902767365.post-8405861068163360602014-07-23T20:58:00.002+02:002014-07-23T20:58:42.380+02:00Dutch pay respect to victims of flight MH17<h4 style="text-align: center;">

You know those thing that do not need to be charged everyday, like my tablet :-(<br />
<br />
I did not see it in Dutch (online) bookstore yet, so luckily Amazon got it and yes I did order it actually today.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4JXwVRG0aP9O5AwfOWOA3BDMv7tN6Av4Ha1Q9CfIGjagWVWU4-YW7IKfB7_aiMnVcv_-A4fnAikpsRWbwAB7vJ_-oNH-qSjjVltsRCN1Hv1OD7LH_pM1FzAmPQ1Itv_OL2-ZlQWAm7xDx/s1600/bookcrm2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4JXwVRG0aP9O5AwfOWOA3BDMv7tN6Av4Ha1Q9CfIGjagWVWU4-YW7IKfB7_aiMnVcv_-A4fnAikpsRWbwAB7vJ_-oNH-qSjjVltsRCN1Hv1OD7LH_pM1FzAmPQ1Itv_OL2-ZlQWAm7xDx/s1600/bookcrm2013.jpg" height="200" width="153" /></a></div>
Of course, I have the CRM2011 version also, but finally some book about CRM2013, which as expected describes new features like the new user interface, business process flows and upcoming features of Netbreeze and MarketingPilot.<br />
<br />
So, soon some more posts . It has been awhile and yes! I was actually busy with some interesting projects like integrating CRM2011 with NAV2013 on partner hosted environment.<br />
<br />
So, in case you want to order the real thing or some digital copy (so 2013) check the Amazon site or your local bookstore (if they still exist). Yes, you should be able to type it yourself... www.amazon.com :-)<br />
<br />
Happy reading!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626694840902767365.post-67998460357913291252014-01-23T17:43:00.001+01:002014-01-23T18:32:17.348+01:00CRM2011 & The mystical sorting storyYes, it still exists good old CRM2011 and you might be glad you still have CRM on-premise else the possibility you still have CRM2011 is becoming smaller and smaller.<br />
<br />
In case you have experience or working with dates and times in CRM2011, you probably are aware that this can be frustrating subject. I think I wrote earlier about time issues and I remembered some very interesting blogposts about the different 'datetimes' you can receive from Dynamics CRM depending on which approach you take e.g. web services, database view and filtered views.<br />
<br />
Some nice post to refresh your memory or just a trip to memory lane:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2012/06/07/crm-2011-truths-about-datetime/">http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2012/06/07/crm-2011-truths-about-datetime/</a></li>
<li><a href="https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/develop1/archive/2011/12/06/dynamics-crm-datetimes-the-last-word.aspx">https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/develop1/archive/2011/12/06/dynamics-crm-datetimes-the-last-word.aspx</a> </li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Recently, I came across an issue related to date & time where in a view records where sorted on date field and a name field. In the interface it might give you some mystical sorting. Although you might know the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabet" target="_blank">alphabet</a> :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Take a look at this screenshot from a real life example (no tricks) :</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1DYavmy5UvdhySkkV8h-_GPn4AJnPGkr7YxT8UgfDgk2_a9pMHq5m-y5NQBNWGfq-OuttjP9z3dq9RI_Pl6FMbbjr_5kQ54U4dJKPJ0ql1CBWduLU6mHtNAenFhoaNDZx9bu8kLEEtuw/s1600/CRM2011_sorting_issue.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1DYavmy5UvdhySkkV8h-_GPn4AJnPGkr7YxT8UgfDgk2_a9pMHq5m-y5NQBNWGfq-OuttjP9z3dq9RI_Pl6FMbbjr_5kQ54U4dJKPJ0ql1CBWduLU6mHtNAenFhoaNDZx9bu8kLEEtuw/s1600/CRM2011_sorting_issue.PNG" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mystic Sorting</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ok, take a minute to look at the screenshot above, where the date for the records is January 15th and last column is name field. The records are sorted by date and name e.g. A, A,S,W,A,A,A,A, W and W.... ?!#@</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDVBQEYJt3gmlX8OmIa8R2y0TiUKcsT_IYg4BEn0L1uGS463dl221cz3R2zoEIn5W8yFnRl5WHD9vxq4hch4wG88OjQoNrnDX4vQ63oMeGXOqw0XkvvTgqUPPq0e2lTbK2jOUr1ZK_keeG/s1600/young_woman_or_old_lady_optical_illusion_flyer-p2449584234590172452mcvz_400-300x300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDVBQEYJt3gmlX8OmIa8R2y0TiUKcsT_IYg4BEn0L1uGS463dl221cz3R2zoEIn5W8yFnRl5WHD9vxq4hch4wG88OjQoNrnDX4vQ63oMeGXOqw0XkvvTgqUPPq0e2lTbK2jOUr1ZK_keeG/s1600/young_woman_or_old_lady_optical_illusion_flyer-p2449584234590172452mcvz_400-300x300.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div>
It's no trick and your customer will be confused and hopefully you too. As the famous 'young woman or old lady' picture, this is actually happening and you probably can recreate the same if you are a bit creative with dates and times.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #cc0000;">SPOILER ALERT</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What actually happens is this, the first 4 records are actually not created on January the 15th, but on January 14th at exactly 23:00 and other records are created at January 15th at 0:00. The timezone conversion in the user interface is in this case 2 hours and see the result.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
In case you test this in SQL server you will see the sorting is correct, because 14th become before 15th. Neverteheless, in the UI of CRM it looks odd :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy sorting :)</div>
<div>

I intend to pick up more regular posting about the challenges you might face during the discovery of CRM.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Of course in 2014 we have new challenges in the introduction of CRM 2013. The upgrade of 2011 to 2013 for CRM online is in progress and I still notice this change is underestimated and often just expected as 'just' some upgrade.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdgv0nzfOtvRUSECV3sh20EDuisnN6aCxfCujxh8C46GvcGUJB45LgCy1gzp3DQ7eOXJZSa4d8c49CUL_ySICQEvEW3NGy3cdYFzlXa-k4ThP9lZjy9BopEWgiYbRiv8lDRSYxKcOnMq7g/s1600/23202133-happy-new-year-2014-with-fireworks-against-black-sky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdgv0nzfOtvRUSECV3sh20EDuisnN6aCxfCujxh8C46GvcGUJB45LgCy1gzp3DQ7eOXJZSa4d8c49CUL_ySICQEvEW3NGy3cdYFzlXa-k4ThP9lZjy9BopEWgiYbRiv8lDRSYxKcOnMq7g/s320/23202133-happy-new-year-2014-with-fireworks-against-black-sky.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My challenges will be in CRM2013, integrations with NAV and of course try to post/write more :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, hope 2014 brings you the best and will be a year full of new challenges and some nice posts!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy 2014!</div>

'Unfortunately' for you,you have to start over again due to the release of new CRM Online e.g. CRM2013.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnIpAfCrfhXSZeXsc7ZKyxYXoeBrAMhygkCQEz8NBU-6foSIUyc7d0m_krI6irNepNoG1mjmsW1sONGUxWI_PiWcsj6iz4IdzkLBwXq9nJvSJlvxLamFX0qcynIRcRW6vxl2WeqVdCdFhF/s1600/theend.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="116" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnIpAfCrfhXSZeXsc7ZKyxYXoeBrAMhygkCQEz8NBU-6foSIUyc7d0m_krI6irNepNoG1mjmsW1sONGUxWI_PiWcsj6iz4IdzkLBwXq9nJvSJlvxLamFX0qcynIRcRW6vxl2WeqVdCdFhF/s200/theend.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
I got my first CRM Online trail with CRM2013 (it is available as you read), so back to 'school' to learn about new features, to find you way in the application. From user experience perspective it is much better, which includes new navigation method, new form lay-out.<br />
<br />
Also new features as synchronous workflows, new database model are things to look for and start discovering.<br />
<br />
One disadvantage is the fact that there is no return for current CRM Online user you will be migrated to the new CRM, so prepare for a change. Also the cost will increase now you will have three subscription levels 15, 30 and 65 U$ and of course you want the most expensive one. Of course its is according to many Microsoft presentation much cheaper then the major competitor Salesforce, just the messenger here :)<br />

During the Summer I attended Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 Partner Training Blitz. About the much anticipated new release of Dynamics CRM.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1JicIybunpKvO3SEzZ7FiDXut05q8ogACUl1-TYtiSDmZRVNOIKVS56W5zxcdSXCNxBWlbkQkhgvoXLljQV96LsaMC3dv6_dd6T6U-VTua3lVAzV4LY4WFZaSeNf0O_ki8QU-QrDGjre6/s1600/pnb-end-of-summer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1JicIybunpKvO3SEzZ7FiDXut05q8ogACUl1-TYtiSDmZRVNOIKVS56W5zxcdSXCNxBWlbkQkhgvoXLljQV96LsaMC3dv6_dd6T6U-VTua3lVAzV4LY4WFZaSeNf0O_ki8QU-QrDGjre6/s200/pnb-end-of-summer.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
Of course, we all heard the basics about new improved UI & UX, no more annoying popups, easy way to check field without J(ava)script etc (more in links below). From my personal perspective the most interesting fact is that on database level the entity tables, you know the base and extension, are finally merged to just ONE table that is nice :)<br />
<br />
Of course the twitter exploded after the event it was worldwide semi broadcast/live or whatever event, guess Skype was not ready yet or maybe our 'live' questions would be to difficult ;-)<br />
<br />
A lot of photo's were made, of course we live in smartphone age, but oh might be Microsoft did miss that....Oh I did hear that the content was not to be published...oops<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijQTSQFw0XWwJJXbSMkMOQ4eIL7R73sm0qZiUT9b-Q4oUMCIjjWDnIs2s8BJGJJvwEKA6cfVGFp6UHPecfa-JnQLi8PQVkjeqenWYlwcm2Xnf2xfr6-XUhnsHIJxg597Wl6nufqxW5FwGz/s1600/crm2013.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="112" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijQTSQFw0XWwJJXbSMkMOQ4eIL7R73sm0qZiUT9b-Q4oUMCIjjWDnIs2s8BJGJJvwEKA6cfVGFp6UHPecfa-JnQLi8PQVkjeqenWYlwcm2Xnf2xfr6-XUhnsHIJxg597Wl6nufqxW5FwGz/s200/crm2013.png" width="200" /></a></div>
Nevertheless the improvements looks nice and some of us are lucky to get hand on the beta version and can play with it. It should be releases in October at least for online.<br />
<br />

In some situations you will have more complex xml structures, which contains repeating nodes. The process is simple, we basically loop several times through the source file.<br />
<br />
In this post a method is described how you can configure your xml with repeating with Scribe Insight.<br />
<br />
You start with your <i>xml </i>and create associated <i>xsd </i>schema (this is optional) with your <i>xml </i>software like Visual Studio or XML spy or other flavor :-)<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWKc-BMiK4glbdOepwic_N927PK3QdbsOkEr9JS0vyyqgabPfq02670QeSRU4xDeEevudcAyzSLI8LcP0vWitkkUyXJ-TDunCYblUTvqhvevqOgOTPNgDh85GrQPHS8ebW6iF4BwU1rVbz/s1600/Capture_xml.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWKc-BMiK4glbdOepwic_N927PK3QdbsOkEr9JS0vyyqgabPfq02670QeSRU4xDeEevudcAyzSLI8LcP0vWitkkUyXJ-TDunCYblUTvqhvevqOgOTPNgDh85GrQPHS8ebW6iF4BwU1rVbz/s200/Capture_xml.PNG" width="191" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Example customer xml file</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The next step would be to configure a new connection in the Work Bench for your xml file, of course this is only the sample file. For integration the contents will change e.g. its dynamic. Keep in mind that you will need to change this files too as some fields are added or removed from the source.<br />
<br />
In the following screenshots you see the steps you have to take. In short you open the <i>connection manager</i>, choose for XML > dynamic > Select your xml and xsd. The files should be located in your collaboration folder.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1qpgHOxfKdkG4vMBVJ0uXhSKyOvME81Evtkkvn50CrUyN0-EQsDXwpvaBBy30Hdthqt24X7xeERu4cpSwh9WO3xcGtuqW7dw4mCBcfMVZp9a-BWcpsz_VkLIszmYAz5AO1KvtgroL-ShO/s1600/Capture_xsd.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="118" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1qpgHOxfKdkG4vMBVJ0uXhSKyOvME81Evtkkvn50CrUyN0-EQsDXwpvaBBy30Hdthqt24X7xeERu4cpSwh9WO3xcGtuqW7dw4mCBcfMVZp9a-BWcpsz_VkLIszmYAz5AO1KvtgroL-ShO/s200/Capture_xsd.PNG" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Example customer xsd file</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
After your connection has been created you can define connection to your target. In this example I used a custom table in Scribe Internal database called <i>customers</i>. When you define your source a window will popup where you can define your repeating node(s).<br />
<br />
Ok, here is the flow in screenshots..... just like your TV at home :)<br />

The advantage is that your setup is easy, at least I think so :) You have virtual name for your SQL server no need for extra CRM configuration.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSH__Jb6blInyBtWHu8k_EwXfCe8iedoNVWadX58FhvKaNnHxbTcSueUoBcGfDdgmCsNytEzFbTfgceuxg3xwxf9Ra_ptO2GejZyM2_uTWoRHPWUWkbSXqyKEa-oVvXO5Rn7yjZi1IeyT2/s1600/Droste.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSH__Jb6blInyBtWHu8k_EwXfCe8iedoNVWadX58FhvKaNnHxbTcSueUoBcGfDdgmCsNytEzFbTfgceuxg3xwxf9Ra_ptO2GejZyM2_uTWoRHPWUWkbSXqyKEa-oVvXO5Rn7yjZi1IeyT2/s320/Droste.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>
<br />
Another alternative is to choose for database mirroring, also supported scenario. Please keep in mind that besides configuration of SQL server is more complex. You also need to make changes to CRM, which can be forgotten easily.<br />
<br />
For example you need to change some settings in the registry on the server where the web application is installed:<br />
<br />
1) Locate: <span style="color: #2a2a2a; font-family: 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px;"><b>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM\</b></span><br />
2) Change: <b>configdb</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">Data Source=MSCRM_Primary\SQL1;<b>Failover Partner=MSCRM_Mirror\SQL2;</b>Initial Catalog= MSCRM_CONFIG;Integrated Security=SSPI</span></i><br />
<br />
<pre style="font-family: Consolas, Courier, monospace; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; overflow: auto; padding: 5px; word-wrap: normal;">
</pre>
<br />
You can image when you do node switch and forget this entry your CRM application will crash. More details at: <a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/hh699791.aspx">http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/hh699791.aspx</a>.<br />

The requirements should be business driven, but it still happens that requirements for integration are defined by the IT/support organization.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZnrCAWDdkLZ2QIk3169wIgEL2giH71FUnoR3Rp-GKsW_N9sHcm-DZOjsB-y_6CUmhZopeyBEL7duHxP-EU3-baoJVuinxpVizhXKBESGzUkaCsKiY5O-Qjy4BCRrfvA1QLtvXxF1NlX36/s1600/comfortzone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZnrCAWDdkLZ2QIk3169wIgEL2giH71FUnoR3Rp-GKsW_N9sHcm-DZOjsB-y_6CUmhZopeyBEL7duHxP-EU3-baoJVuinxpVizhXKBESGzUkaCsKiY5O-Qjy4BCRrfvA1QLtvXxF1NlX36/s200/comfortzone.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div>
In some cases due to lack of knowledge people tend to define or choose requirements within their comfort zone. Of course this is not surprising because it is for them known area and they basically keep doing their work without being confronted with new technology or new software.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The downside is that the integration design gets more complex as it should be. I prefer to design integration with according to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loose_coupling" target="_blank"> 'loosey coupled'</a> principle, which basically means that source(s) and target(s) have no direct links.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In this scenario you would have for example a generic account template. A system that want to deliver account information used the template (in xml format) and the integration process moves it to the desired target system. Very import in this scenario that the templates are defined and changes have major impact, so you would need to take time to define a good generic template. Of course in case you use <a href="http://www.scribesoft.com/" target="_blank">Scribe</a> as integration platform you need to define a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XDR_Schema" target="_blank">xdr </a>or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML_Schema_(W3C)" target="_blank">xsd </a>file. In this file you define all fields, required, data types etc.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the integration scenario where you exchange xml files you would most likely use <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSMQ" target="_blank">MSMQ </a>as reliable and proven technology. In my next post I will explain more about this scenario using <a href="http://www.scribesoft.com/" target="_blank">Scribe Insigh</a>t.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, explore new possibilities by stepping out your comfort zone it could make your life less complex....</div>

Last month, I finally got some time to write new musing. This time about the topic of documentation and handing over your CRM application into support.<br />
<br />
It still amazes me that so little attention is spend on value of documentation, especially in enterprise segment. This is a key requirement when you hand over your xRM solutions to the support organization.<br />
<br />
But read my musing at msdynamicsworld... yes, click <a href="http://msdynamicsworld.com/story/support-network-managing-your-microsoft-dynamics-crm-solution-after-go-live" target="_blank">here</a> :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626694840902767365.post-55405344346059285532013-01-01T17:20:00.002+01:002013-01-01T17:21:35.059+01:00Happy 2013!<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I have been mostly working on integration and migration projects to CRM2011 the last couple of months.<br />
<br />
My integration designs are for at least one project a mixture of several technics, mostly due to requirements from the IT department and you might say this is also limiting factor.<br />
<br />
Nevertheless, it is interesting to just different approach, basically I use four kinds of approaches:<br />
<br />
<ul><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB3r4f64CLGaXLTVNSICAm-8QzGX0ZG5CTqC3L-wtEWoNcXYtozab9hC5F7jDh6FkBxbbh7fjPdbNy7EXEs3vUF-YaQ5TxVQ59-6BS9913X1C1mcvh8yQqjzQePHvFIJoCkzPVyfYfdKfb/s1600/blending.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB3r4f64CLGaXLTVNSICAm-8QzGX0ZG5CTqC3L-wtEWoNcXYtozab9hC5F7jDh6FkBxbbh7fjPdbNy7EXEs3vUF-YaQ5TxVQ59-6BS9913X1C1mcvh8yQqjzQePHvFIJoCkzPVyfYfdKfb/s200/blending.jpg" width="200" /></a>
<li>Standard and custom web service </li>
<li>Standard and custom database views</li>
<li>Integration based on MSMQ with of course Scribe Insight</li>
<li>.NET application</li>
</ul>
<br />
The overal design is "loosely coupled" and between CRM 2011 and legacy systems we have integration database in place. For integration that is synchronous we use of course webservice. For integrations that need to just use data, we use database views and results are stored in memory on the legacy application.<br />
<br />
For extracting data from CRM 2011 we use mostly plugins and for a-synchronous processes we use MSMQ.<br />
<br />
So basically a nice blend of several technics some technics, which make a integration interesting :)<br />

We have new update rollup available too. You can find the details about the latest version at kb article: <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2710577/en-us" target="_blank">2710577</a> and download can be found <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30711" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
If you look closely they also offer automatic translation, my kb was presented in Dutch but with the link "click here for automatic translation" It was translated by <i><a href="http://www.microsofttranslator.com/">http://www.microsofttranslator.com</a></i>, kinda funny because with language code in the kb-article url the article is already available, so why translate it.<br />
<br />
Further, I have been busy with some coding and enhancing the (kb) article entity, which needed some 'creative' steps, but more in next post.<br />
<br />
Happy updating :)<br />

At the end of the month <a href="http://www.scribesoft.com/" target="_blank">Scribe</a> is releasing, yes it is still May 31st here, the new <b>integration</b> between<b> CRM 2011</b> and <b>AX 2012</b>.<br />
<br />
Most interesting change from technical point of view that for the integration the web services adapter is used and primary keys are stored in source and target system.<br />
<br />
The web service adapter is one of the very interesting and useful integration options of Scribe Insight. It gives you many opportunities to integrate with all kind of other application.<br />
<br />
Of course we like to have integration 'out of the box' and we know that could be hard to achieve, I won't mention Microsoft Connectors here ;-)<br />
<br />
Luckily, Jumpstart makes it easy to set up your basic integration(s). In a nutshell the solutions comes with the components for CRM 2011, AX 2012 and Scribe Insight to setup your integration. Next you have to do a little configuration and you up and running.<br />
<br />
By the way you need the new version 7.5.1, which is also released today and offers for example enhanced web service adapter functionality. Also supporting MS SQL 2012.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-cbnFkPGdfo1OLcZBonoTUFm_Pzh8yoomAqURlCfLAtO48ElRqiKmI1kkHJpsWy0tp42qj6LNRlkqClO6K9AsrJmgtBBpOzdaxFkmxgBne8vLXj5wrU9cFOEhCKYGYXlLmLrEcsp7RYT/s1600/scribe_crmax2012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="135" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-cbnFkPGdfo1OLcZBonoTUFm_Pzh8yoomAqURlCfLAtO48ElRqiKmI1kkHJpsWy0tp42qj6LNRlkqClO6K9AsrJmgtBBpOzdaxFkmxgBne8vLXj5wrU9cFOEhCKYGYXlLmLrEcsp7RYT/s400/scribe_crmax2012.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">AX-CRM Jumpstart</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The principle for integration is similar to other integration you can achieve with Scribe Insight. The core is Microsoft Message Queue. The changes from source system are published to the queue processed by Scribe Insight and send to your target system and vice versa.<br />
<br />
Of course, every integration is custom and sometimes you lucky you get away with standard integration. Nevertheless this is a great step to get your basic integration up and running and take it beyond!<br />
<br />
Happy Jumping.... you can start NOW!<br />

My latest musing<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">'</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #00264c; font-family: inherit; line-height: 26px; text-align: left;"><i><b><a href="http://msdynamicsworld.com/story/three-keys-keeping-data-accurate-and-reliable-your-microsoft-dynamics-crm-application" target="_blank">Three Keys to Keeping Data Accurate and Reliable in Your Microsoft Dynamics CRM Application</a></b></i>' </span>also prepares for what is coming and I am actually still amazed how companies are struggling with data migration approaches, data strategies, but hopefully my effort (or read crusade) will finally pay off :)<br />

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

Same useful tips is that in case you have Microsoft software contract like Volume licensing etc it might be that if you download your CRM software it is still RTM version. It will help to just download version from the internet which usually already has latest roll-up applied.<br />
<br />
Ok, some of you are a bit scared to apply the latest roll up you could download a previous one too.<br />
<br />
Nevertheless common issue as my roll-ups cannot be installed might be due you already installed CRM which includes the roll-up you try to apply. Also reading the notes with roll-up can be handy so you now you first have to apply roll-up 6 and then 7 or 8, depending how much cuts you have ;)<br />
<br />
Same easy site that gives you overview of the rollup can be found:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://crmdynamo.com/2011/09/crm-2011-update-rollup-release-build-numbers-and-how-to-find-them/" target="_blank">CRM 2011</a><br />
<a href="http://www.dynamicscrmteam.com/crm-4-0-versionbuild-numbers/" target="_blank">CRM 4.0</a> ( <i>might be time to think about upgrading</i> )<br />
<a href="http://blog.coreambition.com/post/CRM-30-and-40-Build-numbers.aspx" target="_blank">CRM 3.0</a> ( <i>really time to move ahead</i>)<br />
In case you want to have any idea when the next one will be available go<a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/b/crminthefield/archive/2012/02/10/microsoft-dynamics-crm-4-0-and-2011-update-rollup-release-dates-build-numbers-and-collateral.aspx" target="_blank"> here</a>. Please notice it is "Projected" which basically means if you lucky we have it and else you just wait a 'bit' longer...<br />
<br />
Time to keep track of your build number!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
